Drawing for me is the foundation of all my art. It is because the tone is key to the illusion of Light. I draw and paint tonally. In the drawing, I work with black and white, with many shades of grey between the two. Drawing for me is a metaphor as an echo of life, as I have been taught that “there is no black and white in life, only shades of grey. Tones deal with the lightness and darkness of a colour, since we see and understand objects because of how dark or light they are. The tone is incredibly important to my art, as it creates Form. The illusion of a 3-dimensional object on a flat surface.
The subjects of my drawings are equally important, as I need to feel a passion for them to get involved in the detail and complexity of creating a solid black-and-white image. I have done quite a lot of drawings, people, portraits, trees, gardens, architecture, Victorian housing, etc. Light produces shadows, and these create ambiance, mystery, and magic, resulting in the creation of Form with Atmosphere.
I cannot send a drawing in a frame with glass, so the drawing will either be taken out of the frame to be sent flatly packed, or it will have to be collected from York. Most of my drawings are large, A1.
